Accomplishments

Leadership/Management
Served as Chair of contract and grant review panels and coordinated process for grant reviews for the Office on Women’s Health, DHHS. Serve as senior minister of a growing congregation and led them through a difficult transition through skillful preaching, teaching, nurturing and pastoral care. In the process of developing and implementing a 501(c)(3) to address the self-esteem and life goals of male youth in the community. Developed gender-specific and age-specific ministries aimed at helping people navigate the various seasons of life. Designed and implemented an annual women’s retreat hosted at the Xerox Center, Leesburg,

Led a professional staff of seven creative personalities in a publishing division of a not-for-profit organization. Designed and implemented, and managed an association-wide graphic identity program and developed guidelines and style manuals for all print and electronic images. Coordinated the redesign of the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) member-related publications and served as managing editor of Cardiology, ACC’s flagship monthly publication. Director and facilitator of women’s retreats that emphasize wellness, spirituality, and holistic living.

Served as primary speech writer and Deputy Director of Public Affairs to the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health and Surgeon General (ASH/SG), Department of Health and Human Services. Advocated various public health issues, including the elimination of health disparities and the promotion of mental health, Healthy People 2010, HIV/AIDS and other issues. Prepared speeches for national and international audiences to promote a national public health agenda. Wrote columns, articles, and public health talking points for media interviews and presentations. Developed short testimonies for Congressional hearings. Researched topics related to public health for relevant speech material. Consulted with other agencies and departments to ensure message consistency interdepartmentally and consulted with staff regarding the ASH/SG’s evolving priorities and other public health-related issues.
